A 1929 Alfa Romeo 6c 1500 Super Sport will be offered for sale by H&H Classic Auctions and online at www.the-saleroom.com in an auction of Classic Cars to be held at Kempton Park, UK on July 25th, 2007. It is estimated to sell for £380,000-420,000.
The car is the third of the 3rd series cars built and one of four purchased for racing in the U.K. by F.W. Stiles the British Alfa Romeo agent. In 1929 it raced in the Brooklands Double 12, Irish Grand Prix and Tourist Trophy as an F.W. Stiles British Team Car and is the only one of the four Stiles cars that has retained a period competition body. The car was sold for around £650 in 1929 and bought 20 years later by the late Lord Strathcarron for £300. He swapped it a few years later for a 1939 Morris 10 Saloon. The car left the UK in 1967 for New York and then to Florida where it was bought by the present owner.
The original 1929 UV 819 registration has now been reinstated and the car still has its last UK tax disc from 1967 when the annual fee was £17.10.0p. Original features seldom seen on other Alfa Romeo 6c cars include the radiator blind with original 1929 lettering, the original Brooklands’ expansion chamber, the radiator temperature gauge, plus all body and door trim, including a map pocket on the nearside. The car is thought to have only been repainted once, in 1949, and has a wonderful patina.
The sale is being held at Kempton Park Racecourse but bidding can also be taken over the internet by pre-registering with www.the-saleroom.com where all the cars can be viewed through the online catalogue.
