Dallas, TX: As part of a series of auctions that included the Western Collection of the City of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, conducted by Dallas-based Heritage Auction Galleries, the auction of a fabulous collection of American Indian Art and Artifacts realized $1,147,402, although after auction sales are still ongoing. All told, results for the suite of auctions has exceeded $3.5 million, and may top $4 million.
“We’ve seen quite a bit of interest in the fascinating field of American Indian art over the last several years,” said Gary Hendershott, Consignment Director for Dallas-based Heritage. “Collectors worldwide continue to be drawn to the beauty and the innate power of these masterful pieces, created by some of this nation’s earliest artisans.”
“Beaded material seemed to draw the most interest in this auction,” Hendershott said, “with a Northern Cheyenne beaded hide baby carrier realizing $65,725, an Apache beaded hide shirt bringing $31,070, and a Gros Ventre/Assiniboine man’s beaded hide and cloth shirt fetching $28,680.”
“The entire series of auctions was exciting,” Hendershott said, “but none more so than this incredible session. I’m very exciting about working on our next auction of American Indian art, which is scheduled for April 25 & 26, 2008 in Dallas.
