SnapNames Live™ Auction Garners More Than $3 Million In Domain Name Sales

auctionpublicity.com – HOLLYWOOD, Calif – Bidders pushed domain name prices to new highs in the first SnapNames Live™ Auction, held over two afternoon sessions at DOMAINfest Global in Hollywood, Calif. The event was conducted by SnapNames®, an Oversee.net company.

Seasoned investors paid a total of $3.161 million in the auction, including record prices for several highly sought after domains like bookmarks.com ($300,000), photograph.com ($195,000), yemen.com ($100,000), females.com ($90,000), and intimate.com ($80,000). Top hammer price for the event was $400,000 for porn.net.

Of the more than 700 people attending the DOMAINfest event, 294 bid live or online in the fast-paced, high-energy auction.

A total of 400 premium names were on the block for the live auction. The list, winnowed from a record 110,000 submissions, created a buzz among industry observers prior to the event. Sales totals confirm that domain name valuations continue to grow rapidly as institutional attention and financial resources continue to pour into domain name acquisition and management efforts.

People outside the tight but expanding community of web publishers are usually stunned by six and seven figure prices, though the trend is no surprise to SnapNames. “As publishers grow more sophisticated in their domain monetization strategies, their purchase criteria more closely resembles buying physical real estate,” said Sudhir Bhagwan, CEO of SnapNames. “At the end of the day, these are investments with a potential for a calculated return.”

Auction continues online

More than 1,600 high-quality domain names remain open for bidding online until January 31. Interested bidders can view the catalog and download bidding software at www.snapnameslive.com.

Grassroots.org charity auction

In a first-of-its-kind philanthropic effort, SnapNames made available a list of names donated to Grassroots.org, an organization that champions positive change through successful leveraging of technology. Eight domain names were auctioned for a total of $13,250, with all proceeds benefiting Grassroots.org.
