Beverly, MA - Kaminski Auctions, one of Massachusetts’ premier antiques and fine art auction houses, announces its Presidents’ Weekend Auction. The auction takes place at the Sheraton Colonial Grand Ballroom in Lynnfield on Saturday and Sunday, February 16 and 17, 2008, with bidding starting at 11am on both days. Day one of this two-day auction event showcases American and European furniture, paintings, prints, china, glass, exceptional jewelry form an estate in Naples, Florida, a Russian silver collection, and Oriental antiques and silver from a Martha’s Vineyard estate. An impressive array of over 200 Oriental rugs constitutes the Sunday auction with a diverse selection ranging across the map in size, price, shape, color and country of origin.

An important collection of Russian silver highlights the Saturday installment of this exciting auction. The collection boasts a pair of cigarette cases, one with an enameled silver cover (Est. $1,200-$1,500), featuring an ornate floral design and one with a standard silver exterior (Est. $400-$600). A pair of 19th Century silver figural vodka cups (Est. $600-$800) depict two jovial bearded-men, one dancing and one playing the accordion. Also featured is a silver-handled letter opener with an agate blade (Est. $600-$900). The handle of this exquisite piece displays a horse’s head with gilt highlights.

Underscoring this important collection is a Russian silver egg (Est. $2,000-$3,000) with gilded insects and a grape and vine decoration comprised of 34 inset cabochon garnets. The egg carries the Cyrillic initials of renowned Russian silversmith, Pavel Ovchinnikov.

Highlighting the auction is an important early 19th Century slant lid desk (Est. $25,000-$35,000). The desk, emblazoned with a hand-painted John Whessell design of the famous race horse, “Parasol”, is made of fine mahogany with a satin and rosewood inlay. The desk’s interior displays hand-painted portraits and a coat of arms on a leather panel.

Also offered is a 19th Century Famille Jaune Chinese porcelain garden barrel (Est. $2,000-$3,000) that exhibits an intricately painted floral design. A Tiffany silver flatware set ($7,000-$12,000) also graces the auction block. This monogrammed set features a wave edge pattern and contains 119 pieces. A pair of early 19th Century Italian walnut stands (Est. $4,000-$6,000) is also included.

Among Sunday’s plentiful selection of antique rugs is a high-quality Indo Tabriz (Est. $2,000-$3,000), measuring 9’ x 12’. An unusual 10’ x 14’ Indo Ziglar rug (Est. $3,500-$500) features a William Morris pattern. Also included is a fine Persian Mahal rug with vibrant colors (Est. $2,000-$3,000), measuring 10’ x 12’.
