Spikes Announce Final List Of Auction Items

(STATE COLLEGE, PA) – This Saturday, the second annual Spikes Fest will feature an expansive array of sports memorabilia benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer. The auction begins at 11:00 a.m., when the doors open, and will close at 3:00 p.m. Spikes Fest 2008 will be held at the Penn State Multi Sport Facility (adjacent to the Bryce Jordan Center). The event is free and open to the public.
The auction will feature two groups of items, the HOME RUN and GRAND SLAM groups. Items in the HOME RUN auction will be available for payment and pick up at the end of Spikes Fest 2008 or if the winner is not present, a Spikes staff member will contact them on Monday, February 11th. Items in the GRAND SLAM auction will also be available for bid starting at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, but the bidding will run through half-time of the Penn State vs. Illinois Men’s Basketball game on February 16th. Items will be available for pick up and payment at the end of the basketball game on the 16th. Payment for all items will be accepted in the form of cash, check or credit card.

The auction will feature over 75 items in a wide selection of categories including baseball memorabilia, general sports collectibles, tickets plans and “experience” opportunities at Spikes games and much more. The relics range from a Kansas City Chiefs authentic jersey autographed by Larry Johnson, five-time Gold Glove winner Charles Johnson autographed ball, an opportunity to be a guest PA announcer for three innings at a 2008 Spikes game and a Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop Jack Wilson autographed ball to name just a few. There are items for all price ranges included in the auction and money raised in the auction will go to benefit Coaches vs. Cancer.

Coaches vs. Cancer is a program that unites the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) in the fight against cancer. The program has raised nearly 40 million dollars to benefit the American Cancer Society. This is the second year the proceeds from Spikes Fest go to benefit Coaches vs. Cancer.

In addition to the auction, Spikes Fest 2008 will feature a 1:00 p.m. press conference in regards to a future event coming to Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. There will also be fun and games for the whole family including autograph opportunities, batting cages, inflatables, speed pitch, arts and crafts, a Negro League history display and question and answer segments.
