Sterling Vineyards(R) Donates Collector Wines to Oscar Night(R) America Charity Events

NAPA, Calif., Feb. 19 – Sterling Vineyards, the landmark Napa Valley winery, will make its fifth consecutive appearance as the featured wine of the Governors Ball, the official celebration following the 80th Annual Academy Awards(R) on Sunday, February 24, 2008. In addition, Sterling Vineyards will participate in the 52 Oscar Night America (ONA) fundraising events across the country with donations of unique, large format bottles of custom-made Sterling Vineyards 2006 Gold Standard Reserve Chardonnay and 2004 Red Carpet Reserve Cabernet, signed by television icon Regis Philbin, host of the 80th Annual Academy Awards Red Carpet show.

For the 15th year, the Academy’s Oscar Night America program will support charities with officially sanctioned Oscar viewing parties and galas. The events allow movie fans to participate in the excitement of the Academy Awards at viewing parties across the United States. Since the program’s inception, ONA events have raised more than $20.4 million for charities. Last year, three-liter bottles of Gold Standard Reserve Chardonnay, signed by Oscar telecast host Ellen DeGeneres, brought in nearly $25,000 for charity.

“My team and I are so proud of the wines that we create each year for the Oscar celebration,” said Vice President of Winemaking for Sterling Vineyards, Mike Westrick. “It is even more gratifying to know that our work will benefit charities across the country through Oscar Night America events.”

Westrick and his team at Sterling Vineyards create the Gold Standard Reserve Chardonnay and Red Carpet Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon each year to complement the culinary creations of Master Chef Wolfgang Puck, who will once again orchestrate the multi-course gala dinner for the Academy’s 1,500 guests at the Governors Ball.

Each three-liter bottle is individually numbered to confirm its unique status. The bottles are etched and hand painted with the Gold Standard and Red Carpet label design approved by the Academy and signed by Philbin in gold ink. The wines are created exclusively for the Academy Awards and the large format bottles commissioned exclusively for auction at ONA events.
