Bidders Scramble for Russian Silver Egg at Kaminski Auction

PUBLISHED 27 February 2008

RussianSilverEgg.jpg(Lynnfield, MA) – A rare Russian Silver egg stole the show at Kaminski’s Presidents’ Weekend Auction, February 16-17, 2008. The egg, attributed to renowned Russian silversmith, Pavel Ovchinnikov, sold to a floor bidder for $3,750 (including a 15% buyers premium).

The exterior of the egg is emblazoned with gilded insects and a grape and vine decoration comprised of 34 inset cabochon garnets. This early 19th Century piece bares the Cyrillic initials of its creator and a double-headed eagle hallmark, signifying its Russian Imperial origin.

Kaminski’s next auction takes place March 26 and 27, 2008 and will feature a diverse assortment including antiques, fine art, furniture and a collection of Oriental rugs from estates spanning Massachusetts to the West Coast.
