StreetWise Partners and RBC Capital Markets host benefit auction at Christies to promote better job opportunities for low-income workers

NEW YORK – Bringing together a prominent network of individuals from Wall Street, RBC Capital Markets will host an auction at Christie’s in New York City on March 24, 2008 to benefit StreetWise Partners, the New York-based non-profit organization that engages thousands of young professionals to mentor low-income job seekers to build skills for work and access employment networks in the global economy.

More than 500 guests are expected to attend the benefit auction, which will be held amid a Christie’s showing of exclusive 20th-century decorative art and design, including a private collection of English arts & crafts. The live auction will feature one-of-a-kind experiences, including six days of youth basketball coaching by Michael Jordan, an exotic car tour, a David Beckham meet-and-greet and VIP box seats in Los Angeles.

Funds raised throughout the evening will support StreetWise Partners’ core job readiness and mentoring programs, which link volunteer business professionals from leading corporations with the unemployed and working poor. Volunteers help to empower people to overcome their employment barriers, attain quality jobs, and achieve economic self-sufficiency.

“At RBC Capital Markets, we recognize that we can be only as successful as the communities in which we live and work, and that is why we support philanthropic and community development initiatives that give people the tools with which to build their own lives,” said Greg Mills , head of Global Equity Sales & Trading for RBC Capital Markets. “We’re proud to help StreetWise Partners offer mentoring and training programs that make a real difference.”

“Demand has never been greater for our programs that open doors for lower-income workers to develop relationships that create passages to better jobs,” said Allison Devore, Executive Director of StreetWise Partners. “In this economy and when millions of Americans have slipped into poverty over the years, our professional coaching programs are invaluable, helping people tap new employment networks so they can realize their full potential. The support we have received from RBC Capital Markets has been instrumental to helping us achieve our vision of empowering thousands of people around the world to achieve sustainable employability.”

The auction will take place at Christie’s auction house, 20 Rockefeller Plaza, in New York City on Monday, March 24 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Guests will enjoy cocktails and hors d’oeuvres while connecting with StreetWise Partners’ graduates, corporate mentors and others from the StreetWise Partners’ community.
