A glittering array of diamonds that are rarely seen outside London’s Bond Street are to be auctioned at Fellows & Sons in the heart of Birmingham’s jewellery quarter next month.
The five diamonds – including two rare coloured diamonds – are expected to fetch over £1/4 million at the Antique & Modern Jewellery auction on 3 July.
The jewel in the crown is an Asscher cut diamond which is valued at £95,000 to £120,000. It was originally one part of a pair of earrings but is expected to be remounted into a new piece of jewellery such as a ring.
Stephen Whittaker, managing partner at Fellows & Sons, said: “This is a truly beautiful diamond and the estimated value reflects its stunning quality. It will be the highlight of the sale and no doubt generate a real buzz, also proving there is a market for high value items outside London.”
Also sharing the limelight at the auction are two unusual pink and orange diamonds. The oval pink diamond, set in a ring weighing 1.71cts, is valued at £25,000 to £35,000. A round fancy intense orange diamond, also set in a ring, is expected to reach somewhere in the region of £6,000 to £8,000.
Both stones carry independent laboratory certificates verifying they are of natural origin and colour.
Stephen added: “It is very unusual to have one of these diamonds at an auction outside London but to have this number of truly outstanding gems makes this a very special event. We have already received a great deal of interest from potential buyers.
“Coloured diamonds are growing in popularity as people become more aware of their existence and look for something different to the traditional diamond.”
Other diamonds in the auction at Fellows on 3 July include a single stone diamond ring of 7.51cts in a white gold four claw setting with diamond shoulders estimated at £35,000 to £45,000 and an 18ct white gold single stone oval diamond ring valued at £28,000 to £32,000.
Also featuring in the auction is an Art Deco diamond and emerald bracelet estimated at £15,000 to £20,000.
