Joan Bowers Collection at Bonhams & Goodman

Part of Joan Bowers’ personal collection, being goods superfluous to her needs, is to be auctioned on Sunday 1st March in Sydney. Consisting of over 250 lots, highlights include five four poster Calcutta beds dating from 1840 to 1880, many rare antique figures, decorative items, miniature paintings, architectural details, columns, room dividers, Chinese furniture and tables inlaid in the Pietre dure manner.

For 30 years Joan Bowers travelled extensively in India, spending approximately three months there every year. She also owned and operated Joan Bowers Curiosities and Antiques in Sydney from 1980 to 1998, first in Paddington, and then Little Bourke Street, Woolloomooloo, moving to Dank Street, Waterloo until the hail storm in 1998.
