Aviation auction promises to be a high flier…
Thursday, 30th April is sure to be a red letter day for military and aviation fans, with a collection of World War II (WW2) and assorted vintage aviation equipment and aircraft set to go under the hammer in Shropshire.
The sale includes a diverse range of lots, from intact and de-commissioned aircraft to individual parts. Aircraft lots include a painstakingly restored ex-Romanian air force Aero L-29 Delfin Jet trainer ground attack aircraft; a WW2 Avro Anson plane of the type that served with the RAF from 1933 -1968 and an ex-Swiss air force DH-Venom (developed from one of the earliest jets produced by Switzerland, the DH Vampire, itself a descendant of the Mosquito).
Other lots include WW2 Cheetah engines, modern jet parts & engines, DC-3 propeller blades and cold-war era Classic Jet ejection seats.
The collection has been built by Richard Parr, aircraft fanatic and MD of Shropshire-based Retro Aviation. Established in 2005, the company specialises in sourcing, restoring and delivering aircraft and parts in addition to supplying aircraft, cockpit sets and aviation props for movies and TV work – credits include the 2008 Bond film Quantum of Solace. Richard says:
“We’re having the sale because we’re literally running out of space – we need to make room in the hangar for new renovation projects, including a Lightning for the RAF and an A-4C Skyhawk that served in the Vietnam War. As an aviation fan, I’ll be sorry to see the collection go, but it’s a great opportunity for others to invest in a slice of aviation history.”
Penkridge-based auction house Cuttlestones has been commissioned to handle the sale, which presents a rare and interesting opportunity, as MD & head auctioneer, Ben Gamble, explains:
“This has been a great project to work on – it’s not every day that a collection of vintage aircraft comes onto the market. The sale will represent a rare opportunity for those with a passion for aviation to get their hands on some very special pieces, and we’re expecting interest from far and wide. If you’re interested but can’t make the journey to Shropshire, there’s no need to miss out – the full catalogue will be available via our website and you can bid remotely, either by leaving a commission bid or by telephone bidding.”
The sale will take place at Hinstock airfield from 11am on Thursday, 30th April with opportunities to view the lots on Wednesday 29th April between 10am and 7pm and from 10am on the morning of the sale. For further details or to arrange a private viewing, please call Ben Gamble on 00 44 (0)1785 714905 or visit www.cuttlestones.co.uk, where the full sale catalogue will be published on the Wednesday prior to the sale.
