Couture and Vintage Fashion Auctions Available Live Online at Artfact

(Newton, MA) – Eclectic couture and vintage fashion auctions held in London and New York City on April 28-29, 2009, will be made available to bidders around the world through Artfact Live! (Invaluable Live! in the UK). Leading off on April 28th is “The Amanda Wakeley Archive and General Vintage Auction” offered by Kerry Taylor Auctions, based in London. The next day, in New York City, Augusta Auctions presents its “Spring Couture and Vintage Fashion” sale. kerry-taylor.jpgThe Amanda Wakeley archive offered by Kerry Taylor Auctions features timeless gowns made from the finest materials, ranging in size from UK 8-16. Known for her fluid, glamorous evening wear, Amanda Wakeley’s clientele has included the likes of the late Princess Diana, Scarlett Johansson, Dame Helen Mirren and Demi Moore. Usually retailing for thousands of pounds, the gowns in the April 28th auction are estimated to sell for as low as ?100. In addition to the Wakeley archive, over 100 lots of general vintage costume, accessories and textile will be available for bidding.

In New York City, Augusta’s “Spring Couture and Vintage Fashion” auction will feature an eclectic selection of couture, historic, ethnic and vintage fashion, as well as heirloom lace and linens, costume and fine jewelry, and extraordinary textiles. Highlighting the auction are: a mid-1950s Coco Chanel evening dress, estimated to sell between $6,000-$10,000; a silk & wool embroidered net coat, circa 1920, and possibly designed by Paul Poiret (estimated at $3,000-$4,000); and a 1937 Lucien LeLong lame evening gown, expected to sell for $1,200-$1,800. Along with Chanel, Poiret and LeLong, other designers represented in the sale include Jeanne Lanvin, Bonnie Cashin, Christian Dior, Yves St. Laurent, Liberty of London, Gucci, and many more.
