Clarke – The Monumental Summer Inaugural Auction June 15

Clarke Auction, Westchester’s Premier Auction Gallery, will begin the summer by selling more than 400 lots fresh from local estates.

A Westchester estate provides a large collection of marble and cement garden statuary and antiques including a seven-foot high marble statue of Pan, a large marble Discus Thrower after the Myron original, two ornate marble benches, concrete lions and planters, terracotta urns in iron stands; fountain figures, stained glass doors, ornate wrought iron gates and garden furniture. The auction also features four 19th century architectural terracotta bas-reliefs of cannons and mortars, additional iron gates and marble pieces.

Decorative arts includes a large collection of Meissen “Dragon” porcelain from the Westchester estate, two large lots of Lomonosov porcelain from Fifth Avenue, Dresden figural pieces, a Wedgwood service, Lladro oriental figures, a pair of Chinese priest portraits from the Ralph Chiat collection, Sevres, Minton, Rosenthal, Chinese export urns, Royal Dux, Lenox for Tiffany, Lenox birds, gilt bronze candelabra, and more.

Silver includes a Tsarist silver and niello belt; an Elsa Peretti for Tiffany 13″ sterling bowl; a large Whiting sterling flatware service in a fine oak case; three ornate, possibly Continental silver, lidded urns; and an Alvin pierced basket etc.

Carpets to include antique and semi-antique orientals as well as a midcentury modern geometric Edward Fields. A highlight is a nineteenth century tapestry in good condition, as found stored in an garden shed on the Westchester estate.

Midcentury modern features pieces by Fornasetti, Raymond Lowey, Murano lighting, and an early Eames chair and ottoman.

Fine art includes two Old Master oil on boards, two 18th C. red chalk male nudes by Carle Vanloo, paintings by Jack Lehrer, Anina Gerchick, Hans Sauer, Beverly Bogen, George N Morris, and A Giordani. Of special interest is an antique marble “Dying Gaul” after the classical Roman and Greek original.

Antique and traditional furniture includes a rosewood server, an 18th C. Italian marbletop commode, a large two-door marbletop bronze vitrine, an Italian paint-decorated highback bench, a suite of Italian paint-decorated chests in as found condition, a 19th C. apothecary chest, a pair of lingerie chests, a 19th C. Queen Anne style table, and more.

Founder and owner Ron Clarke comments “we always have the unusual, but this first auction of the summer, historically our strongest season, has the great garden sculptures and antiques, the Meissen and unusual silver, and the ‘as found’ tapestry.
