Bonhams is delighted to be including a specially commissioned Wemyss Pig – named Hamish – as part of their annual Scottish Sale which, this year, will be held in Edinburgh between 18-21 August. The so-called “Homecoming Pig” has been named in recognition of the Homecoming Scotland campaign, and all proceeds from the sale will be donated to Marie Curie Cancer Care to fund Marie Curie Nurses who working in the community to provide end-of-life care, totally free for patients in their own homes. A lost work by celebrated painter Sir Edwin Landseer has been rediscovered in a private English collection, and will be offered in Bonhams’ Scottish Sale in Edinburgh on August 21st. ‘Dunrobin Castle’, the most northerly major house in the British Isles, is the seat of the Dukes of Sutherland and one of the most powerful families in the country. A castle has stood on the site near Golspie since 1235. A one sheet movie poster for the 1923 Paramount Pictures release, Hollywood, realized $89,625 in an auction of Vintage Movie Posters at Heritage Auction Galleries, July 23-25. The graphically stunning and downright bizarre poster depicts the head of a large male, with the word “Hollywood” in relief across his forehead, as a daisy chain of females dance toward his open mouth. Three Pierneef paintings which once belonged to Queen Victoria’s granddaughter, Princess Alice, Countess of Athlone, will be sold at Bonhams sale of South African Art on October 14th in New Bond Street, London. Princess Alice accompanied her husband when he served as Governor-General of South Africa from 1924–1931. During their time in South Africa, Lord and Lady Athlone had a coastal beach house constructed at Muizenberg, a beach suburb of Cape Town, which still stands today and is one of South Africa’s national monuments.
