Clarke Offers Antique Furniture, Midcentury Modern, Sterling and Judaica, an Exceptional Steinway at Auction

On Monday, July 26th at 6:00 pm, Clarke Auction will sell over 350 lots consigned from estates throughout the Greater New York area.

Midcentury Modern includes a desk and credenza by Jens Risom, a pair of Dorothy Draper bachelor’s chests, a Roche Bobois leather and suede sofa; Walnut Stereo Speakers on Saarinen-type Bases; a LaVerne coffee table; a Springer Snakeskin Lamp, unique glass mosaic-topped decorative coffee tables, one signed; a possibly Baughman Burlwood Desk, and other unidentified quality midcentury lots.

Pianos include an exceptional c.1930 Steinway Louis XV Baby Grand in excellent condition, retail value $80,000, auction estimate $8,000-$12,000. In addition to a Knabe Baby Grand, Clarke Auction will also sell a possibly 18th Century Lute.

Antique and Traditional Furniture Highlights start with a French Marble-Topped and Inlaid Rosewood Commode, Paris-stamped; a Stamped c.1930 Company of Master Craftsmen Burlwood Banded and Bone Inlaid Chest, a Diminutive Antique Chest and Dressing Table, a 19th Century Parquetry Fliptop Demilune Table, and a Louis XV-style Leathertop Game Table among two hundred lots of fine furniture.

Decorative Arts include gilt bronze and silverplate candelabra and lamps, a Japanese bronze of a maiden, an 5 foot high carved antique Rouge Marble Fountain, a c.1940 Los Castillo Malachite & Mother of Pearl Inlaid Box, ex-Christies Dresden Urns and Vases, Lalique Bookends, Sevres urns, KPM Plaques and more.

Of special interest may be dress forms from the recently closed salon of the legendary couturier
Arnold Scaasi.

Distinct Lighting such as a pairs of Caldwell Sconces, Degue Art Deco Chandeliers, and a Fifth Avenue bronze Delisle Paris Chandelier will also be sold Monday evening.

Fine art features a pair of Old Master oils, a mother and child style of Thomas Sully, a male nude style of Courbet, a cityscape by Stafford Bourne, Polydor Comein Terracotta Sculpture, antique American pastels, a John Checuti Rockport watercolor, and other works still being catalogued.

Silver highlights include a marked Paul Storr bowl with twin serpent handles, an early 19th Century New York Repousse Jug signed Robert Rait, an Acorn pattern International Sterling flatware service and a collection of Judaic Sterling and Silver as well as pieces still arriving or being catalogued at press time

Carpets include a spectacular room-sized Agra c.1850 and an Art Deco Chinese Carpet,
