MEDIEVAL COIN DISCOVERY FOR RICHARD WINTERTON AUCTION

An extremely fine collection of medieval hammered gold and silver coins has been discovered on a valuation day in Lichfield this week.

The collection discovered by Stephen Wrenn, (Richard Winterton’s coin & medal expert) is one of finest collections he has seen throughout his career. The collector, a local man bought the coins from renowned dealers during the 1980’s. Briefly comprising an Edward IV gold Ryal/Rose Noble, two Edward IV gold Angels, groats of Henry VI and Edward IV, single Lots of pennies of Ethelred II, Edward the Confessor, William I and John, two of Henry III and several of Edward I.

There are fifty coins in total and the collection is expected to fetch many thousands of pounds when offered in Richard Winterton’s specialist coin, medal and Collectors Sale on 14th December, (an auction which is being televised for BBC’s ‘Bargain Hunt’).

To celebrate the medieval coin collection, a series of special valuation days for all types coins and medals are being held at the Lichfield Auction Centre on Tuesdays throughout November from 11am to 1pm.
