Hart Davis Hart Wine Co. Continues Remarkable Winning Streak with $8.5 Million Auction, Selling 100% of Lots Once Again

Active bidding online, global participation and strong prices achieved

Chicago, IL – Hart Davis Hart held another immensely successful auction this weekend in Chicago, realizing $8,520,955 against a pre-sale auction estimate of $5,045,970-$7,568,530. This sale was the second largest auction in the history of the company, and was the second blockbuster auction the firm has conducted in a little over a month. The firm has sold $15,930,695 at auction in Chicago since the third week of September.

The reigning King of Bordeaux, Château Lafite-Rothschild, once again generated intense bidding from collectors worldwide, with multiple cases of the 1982 and 2000 vintages commanding $57,360 and $28,680 per case respectively. Offerings of Château Petrus and Domaine de la Romanée-Conti were among the many wines that sparked intense interest and achieved strong prices throughout the two-day auction, with many soaring above the high end of their estimates.

One unique consignment was a selection of every vintage of Harlan Estate offered directly from the estate. An exceedingly rare imperial of the 1990 vintage, the estate’s first commercial release, realized an astounding $11,352 against a pre-sale estimate of $5000-$7000.

“Harlan Estate is clearly in the vanguard of wines produced in California, and it was exciting to witness the reaction to this amazing selection with perfect provenance,” commented Paul Hart, CEO.

Eager private and trade bidders participated in the saleroom, on the telephones, and via live internet bidding, hailing from 41 states and the District of Columbia as well as Australia, Brazil, The British Virgin Islands, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, the Philippines, Puerto Rico, Singapore, South Korea, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.

“We are thrilled with the momentum of our fall season, and gratified by the enthusiastic participation of collectors worldwide. Market conditions have never been more favorable for sellers,” noted Michael Davis,Vice-Chariman.

Hart Davis Hart will conclude a highly successful 2010 with another two-day auction on December 10 and 11, which will feature a selection from the magnificent cellar of Grae Verlin.
