Crammed with consignment, one item attracts curious attention: a cast likeness of John Dillinger, created after he was shot by police and federal agents in 1934.
“It’s an excellent example of the kinds of things people have in their basements and attics in Kansas City,” said Auctioneer Andrew Turner. “It’s fun to see these kinds of things come to the surface and hear the stories that go with.”
The mask was brought to Kansas City from Chicago in the mid 1930s by a KC area traveling dental product salesman, his 80-something year old son has had it for years. Complete with dyed red bullet holes, the likeness is truly an unusual piece.
“It’s also an excellent example of the wide array of items available in our consignment auctions, “ said Turner. “Furniture, antiques, collectibles – this, that, and a little bit of everything, just depends on what comes in that month.”
Autographs, WWII memorabilia, and artwork are other items of interest. “It’s an excellent time to consign,” said Turner. “As long as you have realistic expectations, there is a strong market in which to sell variety of different items. Look at all the auction related hit television programs – bidders are out there and enjoying themselves at auctions across the country.”
