Richard Winterton Presents Fine Art & Collectors Auction on 2 June

Lichfield will become the centre of attention of the international fine art market on 2nd June when the quarterly prestigious Fine Art & Collectors’ Sale is held at Richard Winterton’s Lichfield Auction Centre.

The sale showcases the cream of the crop of over five hundred specially selected items of jewellery, silver, coins/medals, glass, ceramics, works of art, paintings, toys and collectors’ items. Each item has been handpicked for the sale on the criteria of quality, rarity, novelty and financial value – all privately sourced within the region.

In the jewellery section, Lot 20 a pair of Georgian diamond earrings are forecast to raise over £1,800. Silver prices are at a high and the silver section caters for this demand with Lot 66, a canteen of 129 pieces of silver flatware expected to bring £5-6k and Lot 76, a set of four boxed champagne flutes by celebrated silversmith Stuart Devlin, (estimate £700-900).

A vast coin and medal section, including gold coinage will cater for investors/collectors with Lot 112, a rare George VI Distinguished Flying Medal projected to bring over £1,200.

A selection of desirable Art Nouveau French cameo glass by Galle and Daum will be the highlights of the glass section whilst Lot 348 a Chinese ‘famille noir’ reticulated vase and other fine oriental porcelain from a Four Oaks mansion will cater for the Asian markets.

The works of art section will include fine bronzes, ivory, jade, lacquer and Lot 430 a rare nineteenth century Jacques Staunton chess set.

Notable in the picture section is Lot 275, a small oil painting of a Suffolk Mill attributed to one of our greatest artists John Constable (1776-1837).

Highlights in the Collectors’ section will be Lot 455, the autographs of Edward and Wallis, Duchess of Windsor and a selection of early Dinky, Corgi toys and model trains by Hornby and Wrenn.

The preview at The Lichfield Auction Centre at Fradley is open to all, (Wednesday 1st June from 11am to 6.30pm and sale day from 9am with the sale commencing at 10.30am).
