Julien’s to Auction Michael Jackson’s Thriller Jacket

Michael Jackson’ iconic red and black “Thriller” jacket, which he wears throughout that song’s video, will be offered to the public during a two-day sale at Julien’s Auctions Gallery in Beverly Hills June 25 and 26.

The jacket, which is autographed by MJ on the sleeve, is expected to fetch between $200,000 and $400,000 dollars at the sale. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Shambala Preserve, where Michael’s two Bengal tigers, Thriller and Sabu, have lived since he left Neverland Ranch in 2006.

The jacket isn’t the only MJ item offered for sale in this auction. One of his stage-worn fedoras is expected to bring two to four thousand bucks, while a wig he wore during the press conference where he announced his This Is It series of concerts, which never took place, is estimated to bring four to six thousand bucks. An original signed sketch is estimated at two to three thousand dollars, and a glove Michael wore at the American Music Awards could bring from 20 to 30 thousand dollars.

It’s not just Michael Jackson memorabilia being offered at the sale, either. Among the 600 other items up for grabs are a denim jacket that Bruce Springsteen wore on the cover of Rolling Stonein 1984, U2’s MTV Video Music Award for “With or Without You,” sheet music from Madonna, a signed harmonica from Steven Tyler, and autographed items from Justin Bieberand Lady Gaga.

Rare Andy Warholcollection of 10 postcard sized litho prints of Mick Jaggerwill be featured at the sale. The Music Icons sale also includes one of Eric Clapton’s guitars, Frank Sinatra’spatent leather boots and his 1986 Jaguar, handwritten lyrics and a leather jacket from Johnny Cash, jackets and a guitar from Elvis Presley, a signed harmonica from Bob Dylan and nearly 600 other pieces of music memorabilia from Bruce Springsteen, Madonna, The Beatlesand others.

The collection will be on view free to the public from June 13 to 25 at Julien’s Auctions Galleryin Beverly Hills.
