15th century gold marriage ring unearthed in Worcestershire for auction at Bonhams

A rare 15th century gold ring, discovered by a metal detector in Redditch, Worcestershire is estimated to sell for £4,000 ? 6,000 in the Fine Jewellery sale, taking place on the 25th April at Bonhams, London.

The gold, marriage ring is engraved on the outside with the inscription ‘iea do re’ (Je adore), each group of letters connected by double hearts and cross motifs. Little is known about the original owner, the ring having lain undiscovered for over 500 years. The ring was brought into the Bonhams Knowle office by the detectorist to be valued.
