SANFORD L. (“SANDY”) ALDERFER, CEO OF ALDERFER AUCTION & APPRAISAL IN HATFIELD, PA., GETS INDUCTED INTO NAA’S HALL OF FAME AT JULY 19 MEETING

The award was presented at the NAA’s annual Conference and Show in Spokane, Washington.

(HATFIELD, Pa.) – Sanford L. (“Sandy”) Alderfer, the Chief Executive Officer of Alderfer Auction & Appraisal, has been inducted into the National Auctioneers Association’s Hall of Fame. The honor was bestowed on Mr. Alderfer, very much by surprise, at the NAA’s annual Conference and Show, held July 19, 2012 in Spokane, Wash.

In keeping with tradition, the award came as a total shock to Mr. Alderfer and the other three recipients, but not to his wife, Gail, and other family members who joined him on stage. The story they gave Sandy was they were there for a family vacation in nearby Idaho, planned for after the Convention and Show (which was true; one of his daughters, Charis, lives in Idaho).

But when his name was called to receive the honor, Mr. Alderfer stepped on the stage to the welcoming arms of his sizable family, as well as NAA officials. The award was presented to him by Rob Doyle, a past Hall of fame inductee. The award recognizes longstanding success as an auctioneer, service in the auction profession and positive contributions to the community.

“Sandy Alderfer is a most worthy honoree on all counts,” Mr. Doyle said, and the ensuing applause supported that remark. In his emotional acceptance remarks, Mr. Alderfer reflected on his commitment to the auction profession and to the National Auctioneers Association and National Auctioneers Foundation throughout his long and fruitful career.

He also introduced all his family members joining him on stage, and paid a special tribute to his father, Sanford A. Alderfer, who founded the company years ago and who is still active in the company’s day-to-day operations in Hatfield. “My father was there for me every step of the way and helped shape my career path,” he said. “Without him, I would not be up here tonight.”

The NAA Hall of Fame Induction ceremony is an annual highlight of the President’s Gala at the Conference and Show. The NAA’s Hall of Fame was established in 1961 to recognize leaders within the auction industry. Bronze-etched portrait plaques of Hall of Fame honorees from years past adorn the walls of the NAA headquarters in Overland Park, Kan.

Now, Mr. Alderfer will join that rarefied and elite group with a plaque all his own.
