An unusual antique display cabinet has recently totalled more than £2,000 at auction.

antique display cabinetLot 1268, a late nineteenth century oak framed display case appeared in Richard Winterton’s three-day Antique & Twentieth Century Sale on 22nd February.

Auctioneer and Richard Winterton comments on the sale;

‘We handle vast amounts of antique to modern quality furniture and this display case is one of the finest I have seen in a long time. Discovered locally, it is unusual as it is oval in form and incorporates curved bevelled glass which would have made it expensive in its day. It attracted a lot of pre-sale interest in the viewing days in the run up to the sale. There were three phone bidders, commission bids and bidders in the packed saleroom. After intense competition it eventually sold to a delighted telephone bidder for £1,900 plus premium’.

Elsewhere in the same sale, a monastic oak dining suite by Nigel Griffiths sold for £760 and another display case with bow front and cabriole legs front sold for £850.

The collectors’ section included a large quantity of stamps with Lot 227, a collection of early Channel Island stamps realising £1,400.

The next three-day Antique & Twentieth Century Sale at the Lichfield City Centre Salerooms is 20th to 22nd March. Please phone 01543 251081 for further details.
