A wristwatch has just totalled £4,000 and a large diamond ring £8,000 at an auction this week signalling confidence in the overall UK economy.
Despite the January downpours, there was an air of confidence in the packed auction room at Richard Winterton’s Two-Day Antique, Home & Interiors auction held in Lichfield this week, (29th & 30th January). A 97% selling rate with most Lots sailing past their pre-sale estimates resulted in some delighted sellers and happy buyers from around the world bidding online.
Just such a case was Lot 59, a gentleman’s 18Kt gold Breitling wristwatch. Retaining its original box and all the official Breitling paperwork guaranteed it was going to do very well. Despite phone and internet bidders, it was bought by a local gentleman bidding in the room for a total of £4,000. Lots 72 and 72, two boxed Omega Seamaster watches totalled £2,800.
The real star of the jewellery section was Lot 253, a vast diamond solitaire ring amounting to 3.02 carats. It was won by a Midlands based purchaser bidding on the phone for a total of £8,000.
In the picture section, Lot 15 a snowscape oil by David Hersey brought £1,050 and a bottle of 1957 Talisker Whisky for £320.
In the toy section Lot 425, a rare boxed tinplate Burnett clockwork ‘All Weather’ bus sped past the £500 estimate to bring £3,000 from an internet buyer. Lot 436, a 1920’s tinplate chauffeur driven limousine by the same maker sold for £1,500 also to an internet buyer.
Furniture was on offer sourced from private clients, deceased estates and Dunston Hall, Stafford. Highlights included Lot Lot 1314, a George III country oak dresser proving rustic charm has enduring appeal at £1,600.
