The Monet drawings are signed along the bottom edge, untitled, unframed and in good condition. Each one measures about 8 ¼ inches by 10 ¾ inches. A label affixed verso on one of the works indicates it was purchased by a man named Edmond from Emile Bernard, a painter with whom Monet was friendly. The 163-lot auction – officially titled Private Art Collections & Estate Discoveries – features artworks from consignors in Europe, England, South America and the United States. “The March sale brings together a diverse sampling of holdings from estates, as well as fresh works from international art collectors,” said Bruce Wood of Woodshed Art Auctions. “I never expected to have wonderfully seductive Impressionist renderings sharing the catalog’s spotlight with drawings of Spiderman, Wolverine and a happy blue Smurf. It was amazing and fun to see.”
