COLLECTION OF AMERICAN BRILLIANT CUT CLASS & BRILLIANT PERIOD CUT GLASS WILL BE AUCTIONED BY WOODY AUCTION

The sale will be held in Woody Auction’s auction hall, located at 130 E. Third Street in Douglass, Kan.

DOUGLASS, Kan. – The lifetime American Brilliant Cut Glass (ABCG) and Brilliant Period Cut Glass (BPCG) collection of Jean Rex of California will be sold without reserve on Saturday, October 20th, by Woody Auction, online and in the firm’s auction hall at 130 East Third Street in Douglass. The patterns, many of them signed, will include Rex, Kohinoor, Montrose, Columbia, Salem, Ellsmere and Sparkler.

“This collection is full of sparkle, just like Jean,” said Jason Woody of Woody Auction. “She had a great eye and gathered quite an assortment of dazzling pieces such as lamps, punch bowls, vases, trays, bowls and other fantastic items. The wide variety, 320 lots in all, includes some beautiful color cut to clear as well. Collectors will like that everything will be sold to the highest bidder without reserve.”

In keeping with Ms. Rex’s giving nature, the net proceeds of this sale, by her husband, will go to benefit the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of San Diego, in support of a graduate student scholarship program in the name of Jean Rex. Bidders can register and bid online right now, at www.liveauctioneers.com/woody-auction-llc as well as https://connect.invaluable.com/Woody.

Fans of ABCG punch bowls will be delighted by the fine selection of offerings that includes a 12 inch by 12 inch two-part example signed J. Hoare in the Kohinoor pattern, extremely rare with fantastic deep cut hobstar and exquisite blank; and a 7 ¼ inch by 14 inch one-piece bowl signed Clark in the Waldorf pattern (aka Quattrefoil & Rosette), boasting superb blank and the highest quality cutting.

Another noteworthy punch bowl is the beautiful cobalt cut to clear BPCG piece, 11 ½ inches by 12 inches, with hobstar, strawberry diamond, cane and zipper motif, attributed to Val St. Lambert. Also from the BPCG group is a cologne bottle, 6 ¾ inches tall, deep cranberry cut to clear, with hobstar, kite and fan motif and a ray cut base. The bottle exhibits good fluorescence when put under a black light.

Also set to cross the auction block is a two-light, electrified ABCG table lamp signed Tuthill in the Rex pattern (one of the rarest patterns of lamps available), 20 ½ inches tall, as featured in the book Rarities, by Wiener & Lipkowitz (page 116); and a 7-inch-tall ABCG jug in the Columbia pattern by Libbey, with a pattern-cut handle and exquisite blank. The jug is also featured in the book Rarities (page 139).

The round trays category will feature a 15-inch diameter ABCG example signed Hawkes in pattern #999, showing beautiful blank, as featured on page 20 in the Hawkes catalog. Also up for bid will be an ABCG round tray, 15 inches in diameter, signed Sinclaire in the Salem pattern, as shown in Rarities.

ABCG vases will include lot 105 – a 13 ¾ inch tall, green cut to clear piece in the Montrose pattern by Dorflinger, with a hobstar base and beautiful shape and color; and lot 286 – a 13-inch-tall vase in the Trellis pattern by Egginton (patent date of 1908), with a hobstar base and boasting superior cutting.
