Simon de Pury, Chairman and Chief Auctioneer of Phillips de Pury & Company, to Conduct Live Auction in May to Benefit Meir Panim

Africa Israel, Whitewall Magazine and Royal Wine Corporation Join to Raise Money for a Worthy Cause

Through Giving Aide to the Poor, Meir Panim Aims to Foster a More Cohesive, Tolerant, and Loving Society in Israel

On May 16th, 2007, a wine tasting and art auction, entitled Sensi, will take place to benefit Meir Panim. The event will be held at the new 111 Fulton Street, designed by Andres Escobar. Through the live art auction conducted by the Chairman of Phillips de Pury & Company, Simon de Pury, and a tasting of fine Israeli wines, some currently unavailable in the United States, the event will indulge the five senses, while introducing a sixth sense, the sense of Giving.

This event will benefit an organization that offers aide to those living below the poverty line in Israel through programs such as soup kitchens, free lunch programs and vocational training. Unfortunately, one in every third child lives below the poverty line. This past summer presented many challenges for the people of Israel. With the heightened need for relief in the North, a group of young professionals in New York felt the need to take action and create an event that would raise awareness and support a worthy cause. Meir Panim was a logical choice because, realizing that united efforts would go farther than divided ones, they mobilized a coalition of organizations to ensure that aide was given swiftly in Northern Israel.

Meir Panim is an organization that aims to enhance the lives of those who need it most while fostering a more cohesive, tolerant and loving society in Israel. According to Meir Panim, there is value in every individual – both those that give and those that receive. “The people who give and the people who volunteer are even more important than the people who receive,” says Dudi Zilbershlag, the founder of Meir Panim. At this event, individuals will have the opportunity to give in different ways: by making a donation, bidding on art or purchasing wine. Art auctioned at the event has been graciously donated by artists, including Israeli artists such as Agam, Reuven Rubin, Yigal Ozeri, Shirley Shor, Miriam Cabessa, Michal Chelbin and Elinor Milchan, as well as non-Israeli artists such as Karen Gunderson, Honore Daumier, and Henri Grallan and Clarot.
