Jack’s Place for Autism to Bring Sports Celebrities and Unique Auction Items for its Annual ‘Detroit Teams Up for Autism’ Fundraiser February 9

Michigan’s leading charity for autism, Jack’s Place for Autism, will be holding its annual major fundraiser February 9, 2008, featuring sports figures from Detroit’s major teams and unique sports venue packages for auction.

The 2008 fundraiser, to be held in an airplane hangar at Oakland Air at McInerney Center, Oakland International Airport, has the theme “Beach and Bling” with a summer motif to ward off winter blues and offer more than 100 silent and live auction items to help raise funds for this important charity.

Attendees will have a chance to bid on one-of-a-kind fantasy items including: a private dinner with Tiger’s President and General Manager Dave Dombroski, Asst. General Manager Al Avila and hall of famer Al Kaline in the Tiger Club at Comerica Park. Another auction item offers a trip with the Detroit Red Wings aboard the team plane for a game against the Chicago Black Hawks.

Football fans will have a chance to bid on a package to tour ESPN studios and attend an NFL game with Monday Night Football Host Mike Tirico. Yet another package offers a foursome golf package at Oakland Hills with former Red Wings Captain Steve Yzerman and Tigers Al Kaline and Jim Price.

“In past years we have had the general managers and coaches from the Detroit Tigers, Red Wings, Pistons and Lions attend at our forums at Comerica Park, Joe Louis and The Palace — we have decided to change the venue this year to make it even more fun,” said Lisa Price, President and Founder of Jack’s Place for Autism. Attendance is limited to 500 people. Tickets are $300 per person and tables of 10 are still available at $3,000.

Jack’s Place began as an idea by Jim and Lisa Price. Jim, current announcer and former player for the Detroit Tigers and his wife Lisa learned about Autism after many visits to several doctors who were unable to make an accurate diagnosis of their son, Jack. After finally receiving an accurate assessment of their son they began a difficult journey to find resources that would allow them to be best prepared for the years ahead.

Lisa and Jim founded Jack’s Place for Autism not to find a cure or a cause but to help families in Michigan who must deal with the impact of the Autism Spectrum Disorder on their daily lives. The children need special attention, programs for development and assistance with everyday living.
