Strong Start to 2012 as Hart Davis Hart Sells 100% of Lots for $3.5 Million; Burgundy Prices Soar

Most experienced wine auction team remains a global market leader

(Chicago, IL) – Hart Davis Hart, the leading wine auction house in America over the past two years, opened 2012 with a highly-charged auction of finest and rarest wines, selling 100% of lots offered and posting $3.5 million in sales against a pre-auction estimate of $2.3m-$3.5m.

Attendees filled the auction room in downtown Chicago to near capacity, competing actively with absentee bidders from 38 states as well as Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia, France, Japan, Luxembourg, Macau, Mexico, Netherlands, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand and the United Kingdom.

Top Burgundy continued to trend upward, most notably the wines of DRC, Leroy, and Roumier. Ten bottles of 1992 Corton-Charlemagne, Domaine Leroy (est. $2,000-3,000) soared above the high, realizing $5,019, and six bottles of 1996 Chambertin, Armand Rousseau (est. $4,500-6,500) sold for $8,962. Overall, the 570 lots of Burgundy sold for $1,478,66 against a pre-sale estimate of $939,020-$1,399,850.

Californian wines, especially the wines of Sine Qua Non, performed well throughout the day, with 6 bottles of 2003 Sine Qua Non Syrah, The Inaugural (est. $2,600-$3,800) selling for $4,780 and 4 bottles of 2007 Next of Kyn Syrah No ~ I Assortment (est. $2,000-3,000) selling for $3,824.

Hart Davis Hart’s next auction will be devoted entirely to the wines of Burgundy and will be held on March 24th. This multi-million dollar sale will exclusively feature only the top producers from this esteemed region.
