9.26 Carat GIA D/IF Type IIa Diamond Highlights Heritage Auction

A magnificent 9.26 carat GIA D/IF Type IIa unmounted diamond is expected to bring at least $1 million to lead Heritage Auction’s Dec. 3 Jewelry Signature® Auction. It joins more than 1,500 lots in an auction expected to break $7.9 million.

“The exceptionally rare Type IIa diamond is about as perfect as a diamond can get. In fact, less than 2% of the world’s diamonds meet the Type IIa criteria,” said Jill Burgum, Director of Fine Jewelry at Heritage. “It appears on the heels of the spectacular 8.99 carat Kashmir Sapphire ring which brought $527,500 in our April event. Our clients depend on us to find unique statement pieces that define a collection or a portfolio and we are proud to again present them with a prime selection.”

The first session is highlighted by a 10.75 carat diamond platinum ring (estimate $300,000+), a 6.29 carat pear-shaped diamond platinum ring (estimate $175,000+), and a 5.00 carat diamond white gold ring (estimate $125,000+).

The interest in fine colored gemstones is on the rise and continuing to set record prices at auction. A number of works present ideal opportunities for collectors and investors, such as an 11.60 carat cushion-shaped ruby diamond platinum ring (estimate $120,000+), a 10.71 carat cushion-shaped emerald diamond platinum ring (estimate $110,000+) and an oval-shaped sapphire diamond gold ring, designed by Boucheron (estimate $70,000+).

The Dec. 3 event offers a breadth of beautifully-crafted jewels by renowned 20th century designers including Cartier, Tiffany and Webb, with examples ranging from a 3.18 carat Lucida-cut diamond platinum ring by Tiffany & Co. (estimate $75,000) to a coral diamond platinum gold bracelet by David Webb (estimate $25,000+).

Among the strong selection of colored diamonds is a suite featuring a 34.05 total carat fancy light to fancy pink diamond gold necklace, (estimate $90,000+), its matching 17.61 total carat pink diamond gold bracelet (estimate $60,000+) and a pair of diamond and gold earrings (estimate $30,000+). Additional offerings include a magnificent 6.50 carat diamond platinum ring (estimate $100,000+), featuring a cushion-cut fancy intense yellow diamond and a spectacular 47.05 carat total weight yellow diamond and gold necklace (estimate $60,000+).

Heritage is pleased to present materials representing estates from across the country, including an outstanding 6.40 total carat diamond platinum necklace (estimate $8,000+) from the private collection of two-time Academy Award-winning actress Sally Field. From the former estate of Wanda Toscanini Horowitz, daughter of conductor Arturo Toscanini and wife of pianist Vladimir Horowitz, comes an Art Deco diamond platinum compact (estimate $4,000+).
