Pook & Pook First Annual Estate Jewelry Auction

On May 16, Pook & Pook, Inc. of Downingtown, Pennsylvania, will hold its first annual estate jewelry auction. The 360 lot sale will commence at noon on Friday, after a week of preview hours from May 12 to May 16.

The sale encompasses several large estate groupings including the collection of the heiress Anne Brossman Sweigart of Ephrata, Pennsylvania, and Anna Ellen Edge Weisbrod of Unionville, Pennsylvania.

The sale starts with seventeen lots of Bakelite, Lucite, and celluloid jewelry. Similar examples can be found throughout the sale. Some of the highlights include a red Bakelite bangle and matching pendant with rhinestone decoration, rare bug brooches, many bangles including laminated examples, a celluloid cat bracelet, and black celluloid bow pin and earrings with rhinestones.

Many vintage and costume jewelry pieces will be offered, including items by Weiss, Boucher, Sandor, Hobe, Trifari, Kramer, Carnegie, Coro, Haskell, Rosenstein, Wiesner, etc., including sets.

The first fine jewelry section will begin with several gold charm bracelets, coin pendants, coin earrings and coin bracelets including Dos Pesos and United States coins. An 18k yellow gold, ruby and diamond “Spark” necklace, bangle, and ring are an attractive group (sold individually), a 14k yellow gold and diamond cluster ring and an opal, emerald, and diamond pendant will be sold in that section. Several beautiful tennis bracelets, including a 14k yellow gold and diamond example with 62 full-cut diamonds, 14k gold, emerald and diamond example, a 14k gold and amethyst example, and a 14k gold, diamond and sapphire example. Emerald and diamond jewelry including an 18k white gold brooch, two 18k yellow gold rings, and 14k earrings will be offered.

For those who like topaz, there are pieces with large stones, including a ring with an oval-cut blue topaz, approximately 5.0 carat, a ring with a rectangular-cut topaz, approximately 11.5 carat with matching pendant, approximately 9.25 carat. Also offered is a 14k yellow gold and topaz and diamond tennis bracelet.

The estate of Anne Brossman Sweigart includes many pieces with angel skin coral, attractively placed in various 14k and 18k gold settings, some with diamond accents. Also from the Sweigart estate are numerous pieces of fine jewelry in 14k, 18k and 24k gold with diamonds, emeralds, amethysts, sapphires, carnelians, rubies, jade, garnets, etc., including bracelets, rings, earrings and necklaces. Much of the vintage and costume jewelry is included in this collection along with a nice grouping of Taxco silver pieces.

Native American silver is represented in this sale including a squash blossom necklace and other silver and turquoise items. Also in the silver category are charm bracelets, a Jensen bracelet and earrings, and a Just Anderson bracelet.

Two of the highlights of the Weisbrod estate are a lady’s fancy diamond and sapphire Art Deco platinum ring with approximately 2.44 carat diamond weight, and a platinum and diamond bracelet with 92 old European cut diamonds, approximately 3.00 carat diamond weight.

Some other pieces include an 18k yellow and white gold tapering necklace and bracelet, a white gold and diamond dinner ring, a 14k white gold, ruby and diamond ring with 30 brilliant cut diamonds, an 18k yellow gold, sapphire and diamond pendant, necklace and earrings and an 18k yellow gold, sapphire and diamond ring with marquise cut blue sapphires and pavÈ set diamonds. Gold slide bracelets, cameos, Victorian items and pearls round out the sale.
