art-value.jpgLUXEMBOURG – More than 80 000 000 US$ were necessary to afford Le bassin aux Nymph as by Claude Monet. A new record for the master, whose previous record, dated May 6, was Le Pont du chemin de fer à Argenteuil, awarded 41 481 000 US$ by the same auction house but in New York (source: Artvalue.com.) This painting is part of a series painted in 1919, one of which is exposed at the Metropolitan Museum in New York.

Also reported are the good results for the Edgar Degas’ Danseuses à la barre sold for more than 13 000 000 Sterling pounds (26 500 000 US$.) Natalia Goncharova’s Les fleurs reached 5.5 million pounds (nearly 11 000 000 US$) and a new record for the Russian artist (source: Artvalue.com.) Finally, Vera Rockline exceeded the with The Card Players, a painting from 1919 sold more than 2 million pounds (2.6 million euros, with fees) and multiplied its estimates by 6.

On a product estimated between 90 and 130 million Sterling pounds, sales amounted to over 144 million for the 66 sold works of art (over 81) of the vacation. A depressing context for the art market?
