Whilst clocks regularly turn up at auction, Charterhouse in Sherborne have been instructed to sell a rare novelty clock in their September auction of clocks, militaria and collectors items.
“It is one of these mad, mad Victorian clocks which would probably sit on a desk of a Victorian gentleman interested in industrial design and building.” Commented Richard Bromell. “Made around 1880, it incorporates a clock, a thermometer and a barometer which would be handy assuming they all worked well together!”
The novelty clock which is housed in a boiler shaped case with exposed pipes and a governor to the top is estimated at £1000-1500 when it goes under the Charterhouse hammer. Charterhouse is now accepting further entries for this sale of clocks, collectors items and antiques in September and for their two day August auction of wine, spirits & port with Beswick & Royal Doulton on Thursday 14th August and silver, watches and jewellery on Friday 15th August.
