It’s ‘Holden Heaven’ at Shannons Melbourne Spring Auction on Monday (September 1), with a 1977 Holden Torana A9X, three early Monaros and a very original 1951 Holden 48-215 sedan amongst the 48 classic vehicles going under the hammer from 7.00pm.
Pick of the pack for collectors is the three-owner, restored and mechanically correct four-door A9X finished in popular Flamenco Red, which Shannons estimate will attract bids in the $130,000-$150,000 range.
An added attraction of this car is that its original HT-prefix 308-cid V8 engine has been modified to the more powerful ‘Bathurst’ L34 specifications and includes some rare items like the Repco L34 twin-point distributor, gas-flowed HM L34 extractors and roller rockers.
The car retains its M21 four-speed gearbox and limited-slip differential, however the suspension has been upgraded with Bilstein shocks and matching springs.
With just 305 sedans built out of total A9X production of 405 road cars, these models are rapidly rising to the top of second-tier Australian Muscle Car values.
Monaro enthusiasts have a choice of two 1968 HK GTS 307 models – both fitted with two-speed Powerglide automatic transmissions – with the largely original, unrestored and very low mileage Bright Blue metallic example slated to sell for $85,000-$95,000 because of its remarkable unmolested condition.
The Inca Gold GTS 307 is a country car that was restored in 2001, has travelled just 6,500 miles on an engine rebuild and is expected to sell in the more affordable $42,000-$48,000 range.
An even more affordable option for V8 Holden Monaro buyers is the 1970 Rally Red HG 253 V8 Coupe with three-speed automatic transmission that has recently been restored to a high standard, according to Shannons.
Showing 112,000 miles on its odometer, and fitted with air conditioning and power steering, the Monaro is expected to sell in the range of $32,000-$38,000, making it a very attractive classic for Holden enthusiasts.
All vehicle and memorabilia lots in Monday’s auction are available for inspection from 9.00am-5.00pm this weekend at Shannons showroom, 321 Warrigal Road, Cheltenham.
