Romy Schneider Bracelet for Dorotheum Auction

Romy Schneider’s gold charm bracelet is expected to be one of the highlights of the upcoming jewellery auction to be held at the Vienna Dorotheum on 17th October 2008.

romy-schneider.jpgThe 23rd September 2008 would have marked her 70th birthday. However, Romy Schneider, a world famous movie star who had originally become known through the trilogy of ‘Sissi’ films, died in Paris, in May 1982. Shortly before she moved to Paris in 1958, to join Alain Delon, she had her personal charm bracelet sold at the Vienna Hotel Sacher – under the condition that it would not be resold before her death. After spending 50 years in the collection of a Viennese Romy Schneider fan, this unique keepsake now comes up for auction at the Vienna Dorotheum.

Attached to the gold bracelet are 25 charms, some bearing individual inscriptions, e.g. a round pendant engraved „23. 9. 56“, the date of her 18th birthday, one of her birth sign Virgo („Jungfrau“), and one inscribed with various first names: Romy Schneider wearing her charm bracelet. in: “Romy Schneider, Ein Leben in Bildern”, Henschel-Verlag „Jupy, Fini, Gretl (possibly Gretl Schörg, Viennese actress and operetta singer), Heini (possibly Heini Göbel, German actor), Trude, Herbert, Fritz (possibly Fritz Immhoff, Viennese actor)“, apparently given to her on the occasion of her 17th birthday.

Charm commemorating her 18th birthday.Romy Schneider’ s charm bracelet with 25 charmsAnother charm refers to an article in Look Magazine, where Romy Schneider was depicted in connection with an article on bridal fashion. The 14.10.1955 is also commemorated by a separate charm; on this date a remake of „Der letzte Mann“ premiered in Düsseldorf with Romy Schneider in a leading role.

The bracelet continues the Romy Schneider myth more than 25 years after her death when the memory of the actress seems as fresh as ever. Though in many ways ‘invaluable’, this singular item has been valued at 2.500 to 3.500 Euro.
