Kaminski’s celebrates its second year in California with an important auction on Sunday, October 26, 2008. The auction takes place at the Pasadena Elks Lodge, 400 West Colorado Boulevard, Pasadena, with bidding commencing at 11:00am.
Auction preview periods are Friday, October 24 from 3:00-6:00pm; Saturday, October 25 from 10:00am-5:00pm; and prior to Sunday’s auction at 9:00am. Highlighting the auction is an extremely rare micro-mosaic planter from Tiffany Studios. This detailed piece boasts an intricate and beautiful design, pairing a copper floral motif with amber-hued glass mosaic. The planter is complete with original copper liner. Similar pieces are highly coveted and have sold at auction for prices exceeding $50,000. The planter comes from a San Diego estate.
Also featured is an important painting of a woman in a garden (Est. $50,000-$75,000) by Austrian artist Hans Zatzka. Zatzka studied at the Academy of Fine Arts of Vienna and is known for his figural compositions.
The auction features a treasure trove of fine silver from an important Mexican estate. The collection includes platters, large-handled serving trays, a set of 24 dinner plates, candelabras and more. The owners of the estate, located in Tijuana, frequently used these pieces to entertain dignitaries.
Complimenting the silver collection from the same estate is a remarkable set of gold-plated sterling silver flatware (Est. $7,500-$12,500). Manufactured by Kirk & Son, this service for 24 features a detailed “rose repousse” pattern.
A monumental ormolu bronze French clock (Est. $50,000-$75,000) also crosses the block. This ornate 19th Century piece features a pair of cherubs on either side of the clock-face and is flanked by a pair of candelabras.
Also included is a 19th century Meissen porcelain figurine (Est. $10,000-$15,000) depicting the Roman god of the sea, Neptune. Meissen has been quite popular in Kaminski’s previous auctions. A Meissen figurine of two dancing clowns, originally estimated $300-$500, reached an impressive $7,475 at auction last month.
