More than 50 celebrity astronauts, including John Glenn, Jim Lovell and Buzz Aldrin, are offering once-in-a-lifetime one-on-one experiences, cool space artifacts and autographed items in the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation’s (ASF) 6th Annual Online Auction of Astronaut Experiences and Memorabilia at http://astronautscholarship.org/2008_auction.pl which opens on, October 31, 2008.
Now, bidders will have the chance to own a jacket worn in space by a real astronaut, a flown food container from the legendary Apollo 13 flight or a rare NASA 50th anniversary print signed by over 20 space heroes! Other lots up for grabs include lunch with John Glenn, skydiving with 5-time Space Shuttle astronaut Robert Gibson and viewing a Space Shuttle launch with the first shuttle pilot Robert Crippen!
“The astronaut experiences are a great way to combine our hobbies with our dedication to the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation,” said Mercury astronaut and ASF founder Scott Carpenter. “The Foundation has a long standing commitment to support the best and the brightest science and engineering college students this country has to offer. This auction will generate significant funds for these students.”
Bidders may view the auction lots online now, and in-person on November 7, 2008 at ASF’s Astronaut Autograph & Memorabilia Show at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, FL, where astronauts will be signing autographs for the public. The auction closes on Saturday, November 8, 2008, at 9:30 p.m. EST.
The astronauts have donated the auction lots as a way to raise funds for the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation, a non-profit organization which provides scholarships to exceptional college students in the science or engineering field of their major. The Foundation funds nineteen $10,000 scholarships annually and has awarded more than $2.6 million nationwide. For more information, log on to www.AstronautScholarship.org or call 321-455-7012.
The ASF’s Astronaut Autograph & Memorabilia Show is the world’s largest astronaut autograph show and will feature more than 25 heroic astronauts and space icons on November 7 and 9 at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, FL. Ticket proceeds benefit the ASF. For more information visit http://astronautscholarship.org/show2008/index.html
