Stamp Auction in Switzerland

Rapp auction house will hold a stamp auction in Wil, Switzerland, from 24 to 27 November. For the first time, bidders will have the opportunity to join in the bidding live on the internet. Sales totalling around 15 million Swiss francs are anticipated.

Philatelists as well as analysts, financial and economic experts will meet at the world’s most important stamp auction to be held at the Rapp auction house this year. Several hundreds bidders from more than two dozen countries are set to bid against one another in the auction hall, alongside one thousand other potential buyers from all over the world. This particular auction, which allows to join in the bidding live on the internet, promises to be particularly exciting.

In view of the financial crisis, stamps are benefiting from the “move towards tangible assets”. The potential for further increases in value is considerable. Many billions of Swiss francs are already being spent on stamps every year throughout the world and this trend is on the increase.

Stamps and coins worth over 15 million Swiss francs have been entrusted to the Rapp auction house. These include many treasures of unrivalled quality, which have not been available on the auction market for many years and will be sold at exorbitant prices. Spectacular rarities from a diverse range of locations on earth and hundreds of collections, will round off the selection.

Extremely rare individual lots, such as a pair of Swiss “Basel doves”, with an estimated value of 100,000 Swiss francs, will also be available alongside expensive collections. In addition, extensive stocks of gold coins and several covers carried on the Apollo missions to the moon will be for sale.

Experts are particularly excited about several hundreds of complete collections which will be auctioned off on the final day. These alone are worth many millions of Swiss francs. Emotional bidding competition will surely arise, as is always the case when unique items go under the hammer at the Rapp auction house.
