Auction to Feature Classic Bordeaux, DRC, and Champagne
Hart Davis Hart Wine Co., the internationally renowned wine auction house and retailer, will hold an exciting Single-Owner auction of French Classics from a Magnificent Cellar on March 28th at award-winning restaurant Tru in Chicago. The carefully acquired offering, removed from ideal storage, represents only a small portion of a much larger collection, which has grown beyond the practical needs of the owner. Classic Bordeaux will abound, with landmark vintages such as 1928, 1947, 1959, and 1961 represented alongside the greatest wines from modern vintages such as 1982, 1985, 1986, 1989, 1990, 1995, 1996, 1998, 2000 and 2003.
The collection includes an impressive selection of wines from the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. Highlights include twelve DRC Assortments, including four from the great 1990 vintage ($24,000-35,000 each). A dozen bottle lot of the exquisite and exceedingly rare 1978 DRC Montrachet ($26,000-38,000) will be offered with its original wooden case.
The auction, which includes 588 lots and is estimated to fetch between $1.6 million and $2.4 million, will begin promptly at 10:00 a.m. Attendance is open to the public and free of charge.
“We are immensely proud to offer a small portion of this legendary cellar to wine collectors around the world,” commented HDH president Paul Hart. “The wines have all been removed from ideal storage conditions and provide collectors the perfect chance to add a few remarkable wines to their collection.”
To celebrate the collection, Hart Davis Hart will host a Pre-Auction Wine Dinner at Award-Winning Everest Restaurant in Chicago on Friday, March 27th. Six classic Bordeaux wines from the 1961 vintage, many of which are represented in the March 28th Auction, will be featured. This remarkable evening will include Latour à Pomerol, Pétrus, Palmer, and Yquem paired with a multicourse menu designed by James Beard Award winning Chef Jean Joho. Seating is extremely limited.
