McGuire Furniture at Bonhams & Butterfields

Bonhams & Butterfields’ monthly SoMa Estate Auctions will feature highly desirable furnishings from the noted San Francisco-based furniture makers McGuire Furniture Company in its March 15, 2009 offering. In 2007, Bonhams & Butterfields sold more than 300 lots of McGuire furniture and ever since, savvy clients have been asking for more. On Sunday, March 15, more than 200 lots will be offered to the highest bidders, including items from their traditional and most recent lines.

mcguire-furniture.jpgFor over 60 years, McGuire’s timeless designs have been renowned for combining traditional elegance with a modern sensibility. Their goal is to reinterpret raw, natural elements into designs of perfect balance and proportion. The furniture is created with the finest materials and craftsmanship the industry has to offer, commissioning some of the world’s top designers to keep their look fresh and innovative.

Furniture from all lines includes: lounge chairs, dining chairs, dining tables, patio furniture, coffee tables, sofas, bedroom sets, barstools, ottomans and lamps will be offered, all in a variety of finishes and fabrics. Designers represented include Barbara Barry, Robert Kuo, Laura Kirar, Thomas Pheasant, and Orlando Diaz-Azcuy, among others. First quality display and floor samples, as well as pieces returned due to desired client changes in fabric or finish will also be available.

“This will be an excellent opportunity for those in the interior design community, as well as the general public to purchase McGuire furnishings at a significant savings compared to retail showroom prices,” says Christine Larson, Director of Bonhams & Butterfields’ SoMa Estate Auctions. “Furniture is being offered with estimates listed at 10% to 15% of retail prices.”

A sampling of items to be offered includes: a set of four Barbara Barry ‘Button Back’ armchairs, offered with an auction estimate of $800 to $1,000 — retail value on the set of four is approximately $8,000. A Laura Kirar rattan ‘Barrel’ lounge chair could bring $600 – $800; a pair of Kitchen Collection woven ‘Shelter’ chairs could sell for $400 – $600 (retail value approximately $3,300); and an Orlando Diaz-Azcuy ‘Ventana’ console table is estimated at $400 to $600 (retail value $3,950).
