Eldreds Americana, Paintings, Sporting Items and Marine Art Auction

On April 3 and April 4, 2009, Eldred’s Auction Gallery in East Dennis, MA will present its annual spring auction of “Americana, Paintings, Sporting Items and Marine Art.” This two-day sale features over 1,100 lots of furniture, paintings, silver, ceramics, decoys, maritime and folk art. The Eldred’s auction will be available live online to bidders and interested viewers around the world, exclusively through Artfact Live!, Artfact’s industry leading online auction bidding platform. Highlighting the Eldred’s auction is an exceedingly rare Pilgrim Century Spice Cabinet dating from the second half of the17th century, estimated between $60,000-$90,000. Fine examples of American furniture and decorative arts, from the 18th century and later, are plentiful in both days of the sale. Also offered are several paintings by Hudson River school artist, Albert Biestadt; including “Wind River Territory” with an estimate of $45,000 to $65,000, and two smaller landscapes, “Winter Sunset” and “Stormy Morning in Newport,” both with $10,000 to $15,000 estimates. Many wonderful decoys, made by the mast A.E. Crowell of East Harwich, MA are also offered in this sale on day one, April 3rd. Maritime paintings, including the work of Frederick John Mulhaupt, William Pierce Stubbs, and John Whorf, ship models, featuring a model of the Steam Yacht Corsair (estimated at $5,000-$7,000), a collection of Vintage Pond Yachts, with estimates ranging between $300-$2,000, and additional items relating to yachting and whaling, round out the sale on day two, April 4th.
