Of particular note this auction is a remarkable watercolor and gouache on paper attributed to American painter John La Farge (1835-1910). Ascribed to his loyal valet, Awoki, this piece is representitive of LaFarge’s sensitive and expressive use of color in depicting scenes from his extensive travels through the Orient and South Pacific.
