Once more the Dorotheum gets up to speed for the vintage car fair „Classic Expo“ in Salzburg: „Vintage Cars, Automobilia, and Motorcycles“ with a total of 500 lots coming up for auction. On 17th, car- and motorcycle lovers will have ample opportunity to bid for rare and valuable vehicles.
In the vintage car category, an Aston Martin DB 2, built in 1952 and kept in traditional British racing green guarantees an enthusiastic reception at any event. Even back in 1952 it was on display at the „Earls Court Car Show“ in London and later went on to take part in the races at Goodwood (€ 130.000 -140.000). A light metallic green Triumph TR 2 is likewise a rarity in a class of its own. Its distinctive feature is the coupé conversion, which the Belgian Imperia company only carried out in 22 cases. Named after the Francorchamps racetrack, the coupé features a top with removable Plexiglas section and a luxurious leather interior with four seats (valuation € 36.000 – 42.000).
Enjoy this autumn in style and try to catch up with the fading sun in the iconic Jaguar E-Type, 3,8 L with its 210 hp engine. The feline is in excellent shape and valued at between 70.000 and 80.000 Euro.
Roughly 50 motorcycles will also be looking for new owners at this Dorotheum auction; including a NSU Konsul II (valuation € 7.000 – 9.000), the crowning achievement of this famous German maker, founded in 1901. A singular Kneel racing combination, the M.G.F. Triumph Fiddaman, was originally purchased as a new experimental model by the race driver Jean Bouquin in 1969, who used it in the 500- and 650-class races until 1975 (€ 22.000 – 28.000). Opening at the sensational starting bid of 1 Euro, a 1907 motorcycle by Presto was discovered only this year in Belgium and for reasons of authenticity cleaned and conserved. Research suggests it may be the last of its kind in Europe. The Dorotheum vintage car expert Ernst Pilger calls it “no doubt a jewel in this original condition complete with its patina”.
The auction also features about 400 automobilia lots, i.e. all kinds of items related to cars – publications, a child’s bobsleigh by Porsche dating to the 60ies, as well as various hood ornaments. One such radiator ornament, though never used, is now behind glass: a Rolls Royce „Schneider Trophy“ SB6 seaplane dating to 1929-1931 (starting price € 4.000).
