Every week, more than 3,000 Americans lose a limb. Without insurance or sufficient coverage many of these amputees are unable to afford the expensive prosthetic arms and legs that help make it possible to resume their daily lives.
The Limbs for Life Foundation was created to bring awareness to the plight of these amputees and provide them with financial assistance so they are able to enjoy productive jobs and active lifestyles.
Saturday, Feb. 27, feather boas will be flipped and fedoras will be tipped as guests raise funds for amputees across the U. S. at the 9th annual Limbs for Life Foundation benefit gala. The speakeasy doors will open at 6 p.m. to cocktails, a silent auction, four-course meal and a casino reminiscent of the roaring ’20s underground.
A live auction will be one of the highlights of the evening, with several exclusive prize packages and offerings up for grabs to the highest bidder. Items up for bid include priceless packages of: a chance to see a live episode of American Idol, tickets and backstage passes to one of only four 2010 Kenny Chesney concerts in Las Vegas with airfare, hotel and dinner accommodations; and several golf packages including rounds at Firestone, Bear Creek Lodge, and Liberty National Golf Course. All proceeds benefit the Limbs for Life Foundation.
Each February, more than 500 attendees — including many restaurant industry luminaries, Dallas celebrities and well-known Dallas executives — dress to impress in the year’s theme fill the main hall at the Dallas Trade Mart. Last year’s event, a 1950s “Beach Blanket Bingo” party, raised more than $370,000, which bought more than 100 prosthetic limbs for underinsured or uninsured amputees.
Transforming the fundraising experience with uniquely themed events each year, Limbs for Life takes the black-tie out of fundraising, giving attendees a tailored experience. Past event themes include: western (Limb Round-Up), “The Love Boat” (Limb Boat), Mardi Gras (The Limb Ball), 1960s go-go (Limb a Go-Go).
The Roaring ’20s presented by the Limbs for Life Foundation is co-chaired by Limbs for Life board members Holly and Doug Brooks, and executive director Craig Gavras. Also in attendance will be Limbs for Life prosthesis recipients, Connor Karow, age seven, who was born missing part of his leg; and Chris Ridgway, an X-Games gold medalist who lost his leg in a motocross accident.
Other notable attendees include honorary chairs Toni Brinker, Peter Cancro, and Pat and Pete Schenkel.
