Sedo, the leading online domain marketplace and monetization provider, today announced its upcoming Online Retail Auction featuring premium retail related domains. The auction will take place at www.sedo.com/RetailAuction from June 3 at 12 pm EDT through June 10 at 12pm EDT. Domain investors and retail-related organizations that specialize in consumer goods, e-commerce, and other trades will have the opportunity to acquire some of the most desirable retail domains on the market, including MyShopping.com, OnlineDeals.net, AbMachines.com and DanceSlippers.com.
In addition to the week-long auction, Sedo is offering highly desired “buy now” domains, including RetailCatalogs.com, CoolStores.com, KidsRetail.com, OnlineShoppingGuide.com and RetailCosmetics.com, which can all be purchased now at www.Sedo.com/Retail.
“As retail sales rebound this year, companies will be doing everything they can to increase Web traffic and the smart ones will be considering a comprehensive domain name strategy,” said Jeremiah Johnston, chief operating officer of Sedo. “Owning the ideal descriptive domain name – or a portfolio of these domains – is an easy and cost-effective way to boost marketing efforts, and Sedo’s experienced brokers can help execute the right strategy.”
Descriptive domains are increasingly being used for specific marketing campaigns. They also work to improve organic search rankings, and are known to increase natural type-in traffic, since more consumers are bypassing search engines and typing relevant terms directly into the browser.
Valassis, one of the nation’s leading media and marketing services companies, understood the importance of an attractive and memorable domain when launching its first consumer-facing site. After extensive research and focus groups, the company decided to name its site redplum.com, in conjunction with its consumer brand name RedPlum, a name which was available at the beginning of its branding exercise. A few months later, however, the name had been taken and as a result, Valassis engaged with Sedo to broker its acquisition.
“Acquiring redplum.com was critical to the success of our new consumer brand. Purchasing the domain itself cost fractions of the overall branding exercise, and has proven to be one of the most critical components of our branding strategy,” said Brian Costello, general manager and vice president, RedPlum Network. “The fact that redplum.com had been purchased could have been a huge problem, but Sedo helped us get the name quickly and for a fair price.”
Local business owners like Keith Riewe of Bice’s Florist in Fort Worth, Texas also benefit from the descriptive domains tailored to their specific products and services. Riewe acquired around 20 descriptive names such as flowernut.com, blossomlink.com and Eflowersite.com, and as a result, the company’s web traffic increased by 47%. Purchasing these names also allowed Bice’s to close four locations, while increasing sales by $1.5 million. Riewe says that since he is now able to track the hits from each domain, he can understand which are performing well and which aren’t.
Additionally, Sedo has brokered the sales of other premium retail domains that have since become lucrative, industry leading websites, including fly.com, Vodka.com, Tees.com, Bobbleheads.com and ShoppingMall.com.
Sedo is still accepting retail domains to be auctioned at this event. For more information, including the criteria to participate in the auction, sellers can contact Sedo Broker, Matt Rosebrook at [email protected]. Qualifying sellers can also apply directly through their Sedo account in their domain management tool.
