Richard Winterton to Auction Heroes Medals

An exceptional selection of military medals have been discovered recently on a valuation day and are to be sold on 2nd June at Richard Winterton Auctioneers, Fradley Park, Lichfield.

The group includes a WW11 Distinguished Flying Medal to 1237627 F/Sgt. G.W. HOOPER R.A.F; Queen’s Sudan Medal and Khedive’s Sudan Medal with the Atbara and Khartoum clasps to 3143 L/CPL J HAWKINS 1/LIN.R.; WW1 pair to LIEUT. H. CHAMBERLAIN A.I.F. within a large framed display and separate Memorial Plaque; Queens South Africa with the Tugela Heights and Relief of Ladysmith clasps to BR. D. GRANT. NATAL VOL. AMB.C ; Egypt Medal 1882 to 41/635 CORPL. S.S. JARVIS 1/BERKS. R.; India Medal with the Punjab Frontier 1897 – 98 and Samana 1897 clasps to 12123 GUNR. F. OAKLEY 31ST FD. BY. RA; Afghanistan 1878 – 1880 Medal to 69B/92 PTE T.O’CONNELL 1/18TH REGT.; Queen Victoria Royal Navy Long Service and Good Conduct Medal to SAML. TANSLEY BOATN. H.M. COAST GUARD, together with several World War 1 and World War 11 pairs and trios.

The medals from a West Midlands source were discovered by Richard Winterton’s Coin and medal Consultant Stephen Wrenn. Mr Wrenn comments:

‘It is rare to find so many fine medals from a single source to different recipients. The market for medals is particularly strong at present with people buying for pleasure and investment.’

The consignment is expected to fetch £3-3.5k when offered in the forthcoming specialist sale in Lichfield on 2nd June.
