Bonhams Scotland is to establish two new departments at its Edinburgh flagship Headquarters in Queen Street. Asian Art and Books will join Paintings, Jewellery, Silver, Furniture, Clocks and Works of Art, European Ceramics and Glass, Sporting, Whisky and Arms and Armour bringing the number of specialist departments to ten.
The setting up of a new independent Asian Art department, under the directorship of Ian Glennie, reflects the rapidly growing interest in Chinese and Japanese art. Bonhams will become the only auctioneers in Scotland with a dedicated Asian Art department and dedicated Asian art sales. Ian will be joined by new recruit Asha Edwards who studied for her postgraduate diploma in Asian Art in the British Museum and also holds a MLitt in Collecting and Collections from Glasgow University.
The new book department will be run by specialist Henry Baggott. Henry has, until recently, been joint owner and MD of Wychwold Books in the Gloucestershire town of Stow-on-the-Wold which he has run for the past 10 years. He has an extensive knowledge of 18th, 19th and 20th century literature and a particular expertise in 20th Century First Editions and the works of Ian Fleming. He will be providing free valuations and offering specialist advice on selling books at Bonhams Edinburgh, London and Oxford sale rooms.
Managing Director of Bonhams, Scotland, Miranda Grant said, “These are significant and exciting additions to our services and show our determination to keep Bonhams and Scotland at the forefront of developments in the art world. After our most successful Scottish Sale ever last month, we are looking forward to the future with confidence.”
