Bonhams Fine & Rare wine sale on 29th March at New Bond Street, London turns the focus on Burgundy. Producers on offer include Robert Arnoux, Sylvain Cathiard, Chandon de Briailles, Coche-Dury, Domaine Dujac, Fontaine-Gagnard, Vincent Girardin, Jean Grivot, Lucien Jacob, Domaine Leflaive, Perrot-Minot, Domaine de Montille as well as Domaine de la Romanee-Conti.
The sale also highlights mature, pre-1990 Bordeaux including a collection of 1966, 1970 and 1983 vintages from an English country house cellar, where the wines have lain for the last 30 years, having only been moved once before from another cellar a few miles away.
Mature Chateau d’Yquem is also on offer with a bottle of the legendary 1921 vintage at £4,400-5,200 and three bottles of the 1947 at £2,400-3,000.
Younger claret is not entirely ignored – the sale includes two imperiales of La Mission Haut-Brion 2000 (£4,000-5,000 each) and six magnums of Chateau Lafite Rothschild 1996 (£7,000-8,000).
Part of a wonderfully eclectic collection from a true wine lover includes Australian, Spanish, Italian and German wines as well as Alsace, Bandol, Rhone, Burgundy and Bordeaux.
As well the usual offering of Australian wine, this sale also features some fine South African dessert wines.
Finally, two particularly interesting Tour de France Dinner Party cases are offered, each containing a bottle each of Krug 1982, Chateau Latour 1988, Jayer’s Echezeaux 1989, Comte Lafon Meursault Charmes 2004, Hermitage La Chapelle 1999 and Chateau d’Yquem 1990 at £1500-2000 each.
