A large selection of movie posters and memorabilia curated by Pop Culture expert Gary Sohmers will be sold at auction April 21 including bulk lots of genres by the decade.
The event will take place at Philip Weiss Auctions’ spacious gallery, located at #1 Neil Court in Oceanside. Over 300 fresh-to-the market lots will cross the block, in many categories of Hollywood memorabilia including one sheets, 1/2 sheets, photos and rare Marilyn Monroe items with in person and phone bidding along with Internet bidding.
The Hollywood Memorabilia and Movie Posters will be sold in the second session on Saturday, April 21, starting at 2 p.m. It will be offered along with other items dedicated to rock ‘n’ roll. The rock items include a copy of the iconic “butcher” cover of the Beatles’ “Yesterday and Today” album, rare concert posters for many rock legends and autographed items including guitars and posters.
The Saturday, April 21 auction will begin at 10 a.m with a large collection of rare and interesting Disney memorabilia and collectibles.
After a brief intermission, the second session of the day will start, at around 2 p.m. Beginning with Hollywood memorabilia including an early pose by Norma Jean Daugherty on a 1946 Pageant Magazine, one of the earliest covers with a young Marilyn Monroe.

Part of a collection of over 3,000 movie posters, including half-sheets and one-sheets will be sold in bulk lots, and some singles, by decade and categories. Categories include Leading men and women, comedy, drama, romance, adventure, western, military and musicals, but also some niche categories such as Kung Fu & Martial Arts, Biker movies, “X” and “R” rated titles and cult stars such as Stallone, Fonda, Crawford, Cruise and Sellers to name a few.

The rock ‘n’ roll portion will feature posters for some of the greatest names in history: the Grateful Dead, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, the Beatles, Pink Floyd, the Beach Boys, Simon & Garfunkel, Janis Joplin and the Rolling Stones, including a great selection from San Francisco’s Fillmore and Avalon ballrooms. Also featured will be handbills, photos and autographed guitars, posters and other items by late 20th century and early 21st century musical icons including the Ramones, Madonna, Jennifer Lopez, Pearl Jam, Green Day and Van Halen.
