Three Cambridge University Athletics club photographs of the teams from 1920 to 1922 which included Harold Abrahams, our British 1924 Olympic 100m champion, later depicted in the Chariots of Fire film, will be sold at Cheffins Books, Maps & Prints auction in July.
Harold Abrahams (1899-1978) was a student at Gonville & Caius College from 1920 to 1924. He was immortalised in the 1981 film ‘Chariots of Fire’, a film which won four academy awards including best picture. In the film we see how Abrahams became the first man to complete the Trinity Great Court run, completing the 341 metres run in the 43 seconds it takes for the clock to strike 12.
The photographs will have an estimate of £100-150.
